Theatrical Debut for “Artemis Fowl” Scrapped; Film Will Debut on Disney+

The live-action feature film “Artemis Fowl” will no longer be released in theaters and the movie will debut exclusively on Disney+. The release date will be announced soon.

This change likely sparked by the coronavirus pandemic, which is having major impacts on the summer box office.

Based on the best-selling young adult book by Eoin Colfer, “Artemis Fowl” stars newcomer Ferdia Shaw in the title role alongside Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel and Adrian Scarborough, with Colin Farrell and Judi Dench.

“With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of Artemis Fowl on Disney+.”

Ricky Strauss, President, Content & Marketing, Disney+.

The film had originally been scheduled for a theatrical release in the U.S. on May 29, 2020.

The “Artemis Fowl” books are currently available in the U.S. from Disney-Hyperion.
