Despites Rivers of Light’s Delay, Animal Kingdom Continues with Earth Day Festivities

Despite the delay of Animal Kingdom’s highly anticipated nighttime attractions, the park is still looking to draw a crowd with their Earth Week offerings.

As most of you know, Animal King opened on Earth Day in 1998, and every year since they’ve been making an effort to have it be their biggest day of the year.

This week, guests are able to meet and take pictures with Jiminy Cricket at Rafiki’s Planet Watch– a rare character offering everyone should take advantage of.

Guests looking to venture around the park on April 22nd will be given the chance to meet WDW Imagineer and Portfolio Creative Exec. Joe Rohde. Rohde will be at the Discovery Trading Company from 1-2p.m. signing books and artwork. Rohde was one of the creative masterminds that came up with the concept for Animal Kingdom.. and ever since its opening, he’s had his fingerprints on nearly every project in that vicinity. His latest project includes the park’s newest expansion– Pandora.. a section devoted to James Cameron’s Avatar franchise (slated for a 2017 opening). Fans looking to meet the Animal Kingdom Pioneer can pick-up their wristbands early Friday morning at Discovery Trading, those wristbands will have a designated time to meet Rohde.

Also, Disney Photopass Photographers will have props and special frames for all guests to turn their Earth Day adventures into magical memories.

Reminder: Rivers of Light,  the illuminating of the Tree of Life, Discovery Island Carnivale, and Kilimanjaro’s Starlight Safari have all been indefinitely delayed.
