In their 2017 4th quarter report, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed Star Wars will be getting a new trilogy.
The project will likely come after 2020, but director Rian Johnson is being tapped to start developing the series. He will be working alongside his longtime buddy, Ram Begman, who will produce the movies.
The new series will take a step into a section of the galaxy the world has never seen, while introducing new characters.
“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi, he’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
-Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in U.S. theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
No release dates have been set for the new films, and no porgs were available for comment.
