DJ Khaled & Will Smith Team Up for “Friend Like Me” on “Aladdin” Soundtrack

Will Smith is pulling out all the stops as he tries to add a new flair to his Genie character in Aladdin.

In addition to his solo “Friend Like Me” in the film, Will Smith is teaming up with Grammy Award-winning artist DJ Khaled for the soundtrack version.

In a press release, Disney explained Smith and DJ Khaled would perform a “re-invented” version of “Friend Like Me” for the credits, and it would be released as a single from the film at some point. Khaled also produced the song.

Legendary Disney composer and songwriter Alan Menken is composing the score for Aladdin.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul – the composing duo behind La La Land and The Greatest Showman – are teaming up with Menken to compose a number of new tracks, including a new solo for Jasmine and a duet with Aladdin.

There will also be a new verse to “Arabian Nights”.

Aladdin hits theaters May 24, 2019.
