More than 40,000 unionized cast members will be furloughed by the Walt Disney Company starting April 19th.
The Services Trades Council Union reached a deal with Disney this weekend.
Unite Here detailed the deal with the company via Facebook livestream.
The workers will keep their employment status with the Walt Disney Company and will not lose seniority. Those with health insurance will continue to be protected while out of work.
A small group of less than 200 workers will do “essential” duties during the closure. The work will be offered to volunteers by seniority. If not enough people volunteer, the work will be assigned to the least senior workers.
The Services Trades Council Union represents entertainment technicians, lifeguards, costuming, bus drivers, custodial, attractions and housekeeping.
