Spirit Airlines Resumes Dozens of Daily Flights from Orlando During Pandemic

Spirit Airlines is welcoming back dozens of daily flights from Orlando International Airport (MCO), after a series of temporary reductions.

They will now serve 31 destinations nonstop from Orlando by the start of July, compared to just 16 in May.

 

MIRAMAR, Fla., June 11, 2020 – Spirit Airlines (NYSE:SAVE) is taking a big step toward returning to service levels that existed prior to COVID-19 by welcoming back dozens of daily flights from Orlando International Airport (MCO) after a series of temporary reductions, the airline announced today. More and more of the brightest planes in the sky will be soaring over Central Florida throughout June and July. Florida’s Hometown Airline will serve 31 destinations nonstop from Orlando by the start of July, compared to just 16  when demand for air travel reached its low point due to COVID-19 in May.

“Orlando is a key city in our network, along with being a crew base and a training location for Spirit. As the only major airline that calls Florida home, Spirit Airlines is ready to support the phased re-opening of Central Florida’s theme parks and attractions with safe and affordable travel options,” said Matt Klein, Spirit Airlines Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.

  • Philadelphia (PHL)
  • Pittsburgh (PIT)
  • Richmond (RIC)
  • San Juan (SJU)

During this return to operation, Spirit Airlines is also pointing out safety procedures during the COVID-19 crisis.

According to the company, Spirit has a multi-layered safety approach that includes requiring all Guests and Team Members to wear face coverings. We use state-of-the-art, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that capture 99.97% of particles and filter the air for contaminants every 2 to 3 minutes.
