“Mulan” Racks Up $23M During Opening Weekend in China

The live-action “Mulan” has officially debuted in China.

Despite 90% of the country’s theaters being open post-COVID, the film pulled in only $23.2 million during the 3-day weekend. It’s worth noting theaters are only operating at 50% capacity.

Disney touted that “Mulan’s” opening was similar to the releases of “Cinderella” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” in the country, and were quick to note that the market was down nearly 50% compared to last year.

In America, “Mulan” debuted on Disney+ September 4th, and will likely be the driving factor behind any successes this film posts.
