BREAKING: Walt Disney World Drops Mask Policy for Outdoor Areas

Walt Disney World is updating its mask policy for guests just a day after the CDC updated its guidance for people who are vaccinated.

Masks will no longer be required in outdoor common areas starting Saturday, May 15. The mandate has been part of Walt Disney World health and safety plan since the parks reopened in July 2020.

Walt Disney World updated its policy on its official website:

“Face coverings are optional in outdoor common areas at WDW, but are still required upon entering and throughout all attractions, theaters & transportation.”

Disney also provided this chart for clarity:

Cast members will still be required to wear masks, but secondary face shields will be optional.

The change comes days after Walt Disney World updated its health protocol policy, as the company reduces physical distancing in some areas from 6 feet to 3. The company is also phasing out temperature checks starting Sunday, May 16th.

For the time being, Disneyland’s face covering policy is still in effect.
