Disney Taps Rachel Zegler for Lead Role in Live-Action “Snow White”

Disney has its sights set on bringing the story of “Snow White” to the big screen… in live-action form.

The company has tapped Rachel Zegler, who’s starring as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story”, which debuts this winter, to play the lead role in the live-action version of “Snow White”.

As for the casting process, director Marc Webb and studio execs had been meeting with talent for several months for the role of White. While her auditions impressed everyone, insiders say early footage from “West Side Story”, which is being released by Disney owned-20th Century in December, blew everyone away and helped in pushing the decision across the finish line.

According to Deadline, who first broke the news, production is expected to start in 2022.
