Here’s How the Avengers Honored a Fallen Superhero in Exclusive “Endgame” Deleted Scene

Avengers: Endgame has probably one of the most emotional deleted scenes… EVER.

The MVP of the fight against Thanos, Tony Stark, gave the ultimate sacrifice to save the universe. In the theatrical version, Spider-Man and Pepper Potts say a final goodbye to Tony before he passes.

In the new deleted scene, shown by USA TODAY, it shows what all the heroes were doing the exact moment Stark dies.

Hawkeye’s the first to take a knee and bow his head to salute his fallen teammate, followed by Black Panther and Captain Marvel. One by one, silently, the heroes follow suit, including Star-Lord, Ant-Man and Captain America, who teeters a little out of sheer exhaustion.

In the theatrical version, Marvel skips that scene and goes straight to a memorial for Iron Man.

  • “It’s a beautiful scene with moving performances, but we filmed it prior to Tony Stark’s funeral. The funeral scene ultimately became a more resonant and emotional reflection on Tony’s death for us.”

  • – Directors Joe and Anthony Russo tell USA TODAY via email

The deleted scene will be available to watch on hard copies and digital downloads of Avengers: Endgame, which become available August 13.

With Spider-Man: Far From Home putting Marvel’s Phase 3 to rest, we now look ahead to Phase 4, which the studio announced at SDCC.
